Okay, so. I finished Legendary by Stephanie Garber this afternoon before I went to work, and all I can say is, oh. my. god. Seriously, I’m going to go die now waiting for Finale to come out because THAT ENDING.
A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.
After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.
The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister’s. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.
Welcome, welcome to Caraval…the games have only just begun.
I enjoyed this book so, so much! It was so twisty and magical and I just could not get enough of this second book. The whole time I was kept guessing. I felt as if I too where part of the world, and Caraval for that matter because throughout the whole book I kept thinking “no way, that’s not real, definitely part of the game” – I was so enthralled in the story, and it gave me some serious Harry Potter nostalgia because I haven’t been so vividly enchanted by a book universe in that long. It was so great.
In this follow-up book to the original story, Caraval, instead of Scarlett’s point of view, which you see through out the first novel, you get to view the world of Caraval through the eyes of her sister, Donatella. Donatella is brazen and bold, and following her story is a real wild ride. Donatella is on a quest. She wants to find her mother, who left both her and Scarlett with their father 7 years ago, without a word. She has been communicating with a “friend” for the past several months, and this friend states that he knows where to find her mother, but in order for him to give her this information she must find out the identity of Legend, that master of Caraval. I have so many questions that I NEED answers to like, yesterday. I don’t know if I’m going to make it until 2019 for the third and final book, but I guess I don’t really have a choice. Fingers crossed I can get my hands on an ARC!
